A Word from Ludlow Schools Poet Laureate

Words are a base from which everything else can grow. Words set us apart from all of the other species, words are the beginning of change and development and technology. Words are beautiful, strong and unbelievably important.
Poetry is so personal, so rooted in emotional expression. It is vulnerable but extremely powerful. Poetry is not obsolete in the 21st century, au contraire, poetry is more relevant than ever, because it can connect people. It can help us all understand each other far better, and find those with like minds. I am truly honoured to be Ludlow School’s first Poet Laureate. It might seem old, obsolete and pointless, but it is not. We have a huge wealth of different student positions within Ludlow School, but none are like this. Being the first is important for only one reason- There will be a second.
I am also proud to have gotten through to the shortlist for Shropshire’s Young Poet Laureate, I am proud to have been awarded School’s Poet Laureate, but more than all of this, I am proud that this will make a lasting difference. That this can be a continuous position, and give a voice to some of the truly unsung talents at Ludlow School. Being a part of something with such potential and positivity is truly an honour.
